At HFX Studios, we specialize in recreating history, and telling the story behind the story.
Through our documentaries and virtual museum experience video games, we focus on not only telling exciting stories, but on getting the facts right. Our in-house modeling and animations team takes the history and brings it to life in thrilling full color.
Part-Time Explorer
Our in-house documentary production creates programming for our official YouTube channel, Part-Time Explorer, with nearly half a million subscribers.
Accuracy
When we tackle a subject, our team doesn’t assume that we are able to independently analyze the facts better than anyone else. Instead, we work with the experts who really know the subject, to help make sure we get it right.
Teamwork
Our team is made up of documentarians, digital modelers, artists, historians, and video game programmers. We work together to present a unique perspective on the historical subjects that we cover, often collaborating with the experts who know the subject best.

From famous shipwrecks like Titanic and Lusitania, to railroad disasters, to historic natural disasters such as the flood of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, through to documenting ghost towns, our team covers a fascinating and diverse range of subjects.

A message from our founder:
Thanks for stopping by! If you’re here, chances are that means that you have something in common with us: a mutual love of history. I’m Tom Lynskey, and my team and I are here to create documentary videos and virtual museum experiences that share this passion with the world. HFX Studios’ works are focused on history, but tend to be split between two distinct subtopics: ghost towns and maritime histories. The common theme between the two? The desire to bring history back to life and preserve forgotten tales moves me and my crew to do this work. Our audience is drawn to this approach — they can feel our enthusiasm, our passion, for getting history right. We don’t “Wikipedia” our way through history as we try to put meaningless “eye candy” together. We try to tell the stories we choose as accurately and definitively as is possible.

We take nothing for granted when we start a project. Our years of analysis and work on the Lusitania disaster, for example, completely revised our understanding of the entire event, and resulted in a new two-volume history book based on our findings.

In today’s “TikTok” world, capturing (and keeping!) attention is key.
A key element of our work is our ability to make history interesting. By allowing people to explore a subject in color, in motion, the way that it really happened, we take history from “old and moldy” to “fresh and exciting”.
